Day 28: the MySaver|Design QOTD

It’s really hard to design products by focus groups. A lot of times, people don’t know what they want until you show it to them. --Steve Jobs

MYSAVER ON KICKSTARTER IS COUNTING DOWN!

JOIN THE CELEBRATION! http://kck.st/MySaver

We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop.
---Mother Teresa

Mother Teresa’s thoughts were probably as deep as any ocean and very wise. In the big scheme of things, all of us are important for everyone of us.

QOTD for Saturday

Today's quote is from the dynamic mind of Steve Jobs. It speaks volumes.

When you’re a carpenter making a beautiful chest of drawers, you’re not going to use a piece of plywood on the back, even though it faces the wall and nobody will ever see it. You’ll know it’s there, so you’re going to use a beautiful piece of wood on the back. For you to sleep well at night, the aesthetic, the quality, has to be carried all the way through. ---Steve Jobs

This is so true. Even the piece of plywood that came with the last dresser I bought from a certain cookie cutter home store, is simply sitting behind the dresser vice being nailed into it. No one will see it, and if I don’t think about it I’m not disappointed in my cheap purchase choice. Design should always solve a problem and not become the problem.

Commence the Quote of the Day

Obviously we learn from those who have gone before us, and are most often grateful for their teachings. We learn what works, what doesn't, and hopefully how to be better. From those who have gone before us in design we would like to take some of their words of wisdom and share them with you here... You can also click Quotes on Design to find your favorite.

"Some people like what you do, some people hate what you do, but most people simply don't give a damn" --Charles Bukowski

This quote is befitting today considering MySaver on Kickstarter is 29 days into their funding, and the countdown begins tomorrow on the last 30 days.

Yay! 1000 BACKERS AND BEYOND

MYSAVER ON KICKSTARTER REACHES BACKER #1000!
The Only Docking Cable Protector of its Kind Has Already Been Pre-Ordered By 1000 supporters on Kickstarter

Thomas Lehman and the MySaver Team now can say “You like us! You really like us!” as the funding on Kickstarter continues to see daily hikes in the number of Backers. The vision of MySaver has indeed taken hold with worldwide support and acclaim. Today when the 1000th Backer pre-ordered with a pledge, set the MySaver apart from other projects on the site that never reach that total. With 34 more days to go on Kickstarter MySaver Team hope to surpass number 1000 and are headed in that direction.

When MySaver first launched on Kickstarter, July 28, 2011 the whole concept was a dream, a solid dream but still a dream. Thomas Lehman, the creator behind it all saw yet another daily problem that frustrated him greatly. His drawer of broken, worn out, taped up docking cables. This was the problem that turned into an idea, that turned into a design, that solves the ugly problem beautifully. He went to work to develop the MySaver with the idea to use high grade aluminum and flexible silicone to protect the fragile area of those much needed docking cable that give life to our iPhones, iPads, and iPods. Since its launch on Kickstarter it has been called one of the top Apple accessories featured on Kickstarter by Daniel Etherington from GigaOm, article that went on to Reuters Edition U.S., August 6, 2011 under the title “Kickstarter Breathes Fresh Air Into Stale IOS Accessory Industry”.

The personalizing affect of the MySaver in its five Apple matching colors recently turned to the sensational six, when Mr. Lehman added an even more masculine color, GunMetal Grey. This color adds another element to the already professional look of the collection. Backer will have their choice of Metallic Silver, for a business flavor and Green, Orange, Pink and Blue for those fun lovers who want to match their favorite iPad smart cover. No matter the hue, the benefits of preserving and protecting our beloved electronics from unforeseen damage due to shorted out cables is essential in this economy.

You can pre-order your MySaver:Pro, a pre-assembled MySaver cable protector on an OEM grade replacement dock connector to USB cable, or the MySaver:DIY, the MySaver do it yourself kit which requires minimal, no tools assembly of the cable protector unto your own compatible docking cables, now on Kickstarter http://kck.st/MySaver. Backers who pre-order are avoiding the retail mark ups that will be imminent once the wholesale market gets hold of the product. Buyers have already been in contact with the designer.

So close to the 1000th MySaver on Kickstarter BACKER! We have learned a lot from this launch of the MySaver on Kickstarter. While other project opt for a 30 day funding run, we chose 60 days and the drag in the middle has been as slow as my tortoise. Actually I think my tortoise is faster.

What the MySaver team is sure about is how we will do things differently for the MyKidPad launch. I would give you more on this nifty product that promises to not only secure and protect the adult friendly iPad from little hands but also provide additional gaming fun for the kid curious and is made from environmentally and kid safe materials. So let 'em use your iPad!

We're still happily waiting for number 1000 and then more cheers! We are already very humbled by the support and encouragement and have been approached by many would be distributors. So I suggest pre-ordering your MySaver:Pro or MySaver:DIY while we are still in Kickstarter launch. Just a tip.

Hints About the Future of My...

Thanks to Kickstarter the My... brand is taken hold of interest lists worldwide! Thanks to the Kickstarter Backers and numerous supporters who have expressed an interest in making My... with the MySaver a true B2B! Today's pledges and pre-orders for the MySaver on Kickstarter has been on the low side but we are confident in this product and will continue to promote it. We believe that with the economy not showing any mercy for most regions of the world, pre-maintenance and preservation is the key ingredient behind the MySaver and will be the same ingredient or component for My... brand's future consumer products. One of which is bursting at the seams waiting to launch and the other - well let me just say..."why didn't we think of this before now?!"

Any way... as Ellen would say... go pre-order your MySaver on Kickstarter before they hit the mass market. Thanks again for your support!.

Hello World! - MySaver is Here!

MySaver: Designed Protection For Your iPad, iPhone, and iPod Cables, Called “Best Of” by Critics Launches Fall 2011

Twenty-one days into the sixty day run on Kickstarter, the MySaver Cable Protector has garnered tremendous accolades from the press and Kickstarter Backers. Please take a moment to read what is being said...

In the article "How Kickstarter is Reinventing the iPhone Economy", the MySaver is chosen by Reuters and GigaOm as one of the “best and brightest Kickstarter has to offer” and they go on to say, “The project is a smart idea, solves a common failing, and something we haven’t yet seen from the usual crowd of established accessory makers.”

“The MySaver Keeps Your iPhone Cable From Breaking For The 100th Time”, Greg Kumparak, TechCrunch, August 9, 2011

Mr. Kumparak from TechCrunch says “I figured I was just particularly hard on my cables — I do travel a lot, after all. Turns out, I’m not the only one. After just a week or so in the world, a Kickstarter project for a super simple iPhone cable protector has already found a venerable army of backers.”

Wall Street Journal: . http://onespot.wsj.com/technology/2011/08/09/b6593/the-mysaver-keeps-your-iphone-cable-from

About the Product: The MySaver cable protector, made of high grade aluminum and flexible silicone, was born from the simple fact that a problem turned into an idea and became a design that provided a beautiful solution to the problem. The challenge was to design this high quality product in an intelligent and economic way. The key elements which prove this has done correctly are not only the amazing press reviews but the great support of MySaver Backers.

Backers like Michael who wrote “The moment I saw your project I knew exactly about problem you were talking about, and this really looks like a solid solution. I've gone through 3-4 cables, and the one I'm currently using is in sad shape. Hopefully the next cable I buy, with your product protecting it, will be the last one I'll need."

Another backer, Bel stated “I'm in the middle of a project in Morocco. I'm taking extra care of my iPhone cable, it's my life support line. I honestly don't know where to get replacements here and if they're broken beyond use, I'd be devastated without my phone..” The MySaver team reveal this as humbling but yet gratifying to know they are providing a solution to a worldwide problem.

Not to forget the message from Ethan who simply put it like this “You rox my sox! Thanks!” That deserves a way cool!

With a grin, designer Thomas Lehman says “now our mission is to replace all the broken and shorted docking cables worldwide”. Check out the MySaver products out on Kickstarter. http://kck.st/MySaver
